SUMMARY:Ukrainian Roots: A Joyous Klezmer Concert With Yale Strom and Hot Pstromi
DESCRIPTION:Come out for a joyous celebration of Eastern European culture and music! A trio of acclaimed klezmer musicians present a concert of music that has roots in Jewish communities in Ukraine. Yale Strom\, Elizabeth Schwartz\, and Fred Benedetti are core members of Yale Strom and Hot Pstromi\, the San Diego-based supergroup that has performed klezmer and Romani all over the world. The band will be playing a rare LA appearance at Collage as part of their program about the culture of Ukraine. All of the music Hot Pstromi performs is infused with a good dose of improvisation. SUMMARY:Ukranian Easter Egg Decorating Workshop - 8 Years and Older
DESCRIPTION:Head over to COLLAGE to decorate a pysanka\, a painted egg common among Slavic peoples as far back as 5\,000 B.C. This class will teach participants how to make the traditional art form in the Ukranian style. Workshop Instructor Kat Skraba is a long-time cultural arts lover\, interdisciplinary artist\, ethnic dancer\, designer\, curator\, and art educator. She learned this and other traditional arts in childhood from immigrant Slavic communities in Pennsylvania. Children under 12 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian\, and attendance is limited so that everyone will receive personal instruction.
