Congrats to all the incredible women celebrated at last night’s 2023 Women’s History Month Celebration dinner at the San Pedro Elks Lodge presented by the @sanpedrochamber. The sold-out event, which began 30 years ago, honored seven local women who have made a difference in our community (pictured in front l to r): Rosa Pesenti (Boys & Girls Clubs of the L.A. Harbor & Maria’s Closet), Camilla Townsend (founder of Port of L.A. High School, among a zillion other things), Rachel Viramontes (Wednesday Senior Club), SueAnn Ballat (Gang Alternative Program Youth Education), Amy Grat (EXP-The Opportunity Engine Career Development), Gayle Fleury (Angel Gowns & Light at the Lighthouse Music Festival), and Nancy Richardson (L.A. The 20th annual LA Harbor International Film Festival is underway at the Warner Grand Theatre this weekend. The festival opens tonight (Friday) with the Mel Brooks classic, "Young Frankenstein" at 7p, then continues tomorrow (Saturday) with a 35mm print of the holiday classic "White Christmas" at 4p. The festival culminates on Sunday with a rare screening of "Port Town" at 3p, the 2006 documentary on San Pedro, written and directed by Jack Baric. SAN PEDRO IS BACK IN BUSINESS! With the pandemic in the rearview mirror and so much to look forward to, now is the perfect time to support the many independently owned-and-operated “mom-and-pops” all over town.

San Pedro’s shopping choices are better than ever, from the artisans at CRAFTED to the new apparel shops and boutiques downtown to the recent pop-up shop phenomenon. We’re fortunate to be in a community with so many talented entrepreneurs, artisans, and makers.

As 2022 comes to a close, let’s all be mindful of where we spend our gift-giving dollars. San Pedro may not have everything, but you can find something for everyone (including yourself) in town.
